Happy New Year to our friends and fans! 2026 is going to be quite an interesting year with some exciting activity from Babs Do Productions and Babs Do Studios!
Our Movie
After some unfortunate setbacks and slowdowns in 2025, we are finally near the finish line on our supernatural-thriller “The Diner”(working title). With the obstacles in 2025 now cleared, we can focus more time to put the finishing touches on our last California feature film which is now looking as close as ever to how we imagined it during the writing process.
Babs Do Studios
We have started the year off re-examining some local options here in Las Vegas for Babs Do Studios, starting with city-owned sites and opportunities there. Unfortunately, it turns out that Cashman Center, the Grant Sawyer Building, the former Fiesta Henderson site, and Sam Boyd Stadium are all officially off the board to be converted into housing or are otherwise locked off for city planning to decide. There are still options and hope for building in Las Vegas but it may take longer than expected during an election year and with limited land options.
Alternatively, we have been looking at other states as there are some big opportunities with states that have more supportive startup business programs than Nevada has. The only question is what programs are still active and new as we have just crossed into the new year. Already we have a number of meetings and discussions happening so progress could be quick or just as drawn out as Nevada.
Universal Film Bills
Nevada is in an election year so we will be reaching out to candidates for supporting our Universal Film Tax Credit Bill for the 2027 Nevada Legislative Session! We have reached out to other states to see if there might be opportunities to adopt the groundbreaking innovations and solutions in our bill for other state programs as well. The process may be slow as every state has a different cycle of elections and Legislative Sessions but with the outline of our bill in place, we can work to adapt and update any state program.
Our Universal Federal Bill is still in the works and has been submitted for proposal, we are preparing another revision soon. The state of the industry continues to shift and change even as we entered 2026 with negative industry numbers and the news of Warner Bros’ sale to Netflix or Paramount still shaking the foundation of Hollywood.
With these shifts it shows that our Universal Federal Bill is greatly needed, however, there is clearly a timing aspect to it all to consider. We must remember that 2026 is also an entertainment union negotiating year with SAG/AFTRA and the WGA renegotiating their contracts soon. If another strike happens, the question is how will a weakened Hollywood respond? Could it all crash?
In any case, Babs Do Studios has the absolute benefit of being able to start Hollywood 2.0 independently of the Hollywood industry! Potential investors should take note of this and understand that the sooner we start Hollywood 2.0, the sooner we can move past the turmoil in old Hollywood and also put a stop in not only production flight but also talent flight to Europe, the UK in particular.
As we have learned, Hollywood celebrities and famous directors and producers are putting money into UK film studio developments rather than trying to build in the USA! This is very troubling as it completely undermines the entire US Entertainment Industry and its hopes for recovery. 2026 is the year that investors and artists must decide the future of entertainment and we at Babs Do hope to be a big presence in its development and creative direction moving forward!
